Upperquad ⁄ ©2019
In 2019, I spearheaded hosting a SFDW studio tour at Upperquad. A few of us wanted to create some special that would showcase Upperquad’s digital skills. We arranged work sessions after-hours and settled on creating a simple but addictive game that could be controlled with your smartphone. The goal was to eventually make it into a microsite and get some blog features. With none of us having any experience creating a game, it was a challenging but rewarding outcome.
I led the project and was also responsible for design and illustration. The UQ team finished/polished the game in their downtime this summer and released it as "The Crumbskee's". Feel free to check it out below.
The purpose of the game is to collect as many treasures as possible in a short amount of time. We also hid gems that would boost a player's field of view and shrink the others. The person with the most treasure wins.
Our goal was to create a grid system in which an unlimited number of new levels would be generated in code. We couldn't perfect this in our short timeline, so we illustrated and animated three different levels.
I repurposed Upperquad’s secondary brand colors to create a colorful interface. With the original plan to create the levels with code, I illustrated building blocks out of colorful geometric shapes that would easily fit together. My teammate, Rodney, took the illo's and quickly animated some memorizing gifs.
